CI_E_NO_AUXMETADATA

CI_E_NO_AUXMETADATA is a catalog capability/configuration failure, not a missing searchable property on one document. The request reached a metadata operation that requires auxiliary metadata storage, but the property-store configuration for the catalog does not provide it.

Check the catalog feature path rather than the item contents

  • Record the API or indexing component that requested auxiliary metadata and the target catalog.
  • Compare the failure with CI_S_NEW_AUXMETADATA; one reports creation of a metadata entry, while this code says the backing capability is not configured.
  • Avoid changing document property handlers to manufacture a value: auxiliary catalog metadata is separate from the properties extracted from an item.

Windows Search stores indexed document properties and full-text data as part of the catalog update stage, but internal metadata facilities can have separate configuration and lifecycle. If this error appears only after a catalog migration or compatibility change, compare catalog version and feature configuration before re-crawling documents. Reindexing identical content cannot add a metadata store that the catalog does not support. The useful log fields are catalog, operation, component, and any earlier catalog initialization error.
