VDS_E_LUN_DISK_FAILED

VDS_E_LUN_DISK_FAILED blocks a LUN shrink because the local disk object associated with that LUN reports VDS_DS_FAILED. VDS checks both the external array object and the Windows disk surfaced from it before coordinating the shrink.

Diagnose the local path before changing array capacity

Read VDS_DISK_PROP2 status, health, flags and offline reason.
Check HBA, multipath, controller and system event logs.
Restore stable disk access before retrying the destructive LUN resize.

A healthy array-side LUN is not sufficient if the host disk object is failed. Shrinking while the host cannot reliably read its current layout could corrupt the relationship between filesystem, partition, disk and LUN size. Refreshing the VDS cache is useful only after the underlying path problem is corrected.
