APPX_E_INVALID_MANIFEST

APPX_E_INVALID_MANIFEST means that AppxManifest.xml does not satisfy the app package manifest requirements. The manifest defines package identity, dependencies, capabilities, visual elements, and extension points.

How to investigate

  • Read the detailed AppX packaging or deployment event because it usually identifies the manifest element, attribute, or schema condition that failed.
  • Validate namespaces, schema version, identity fields, declared capabilities, and referenced visual assets against the target Windows version.
  • Rebuild and sign the package after changing the manifest; editing a signed package invalidates its signature.

Treat the manifest and signature as one unit: a corrected manifest must be packaged and signed again.
