WINBIO_E_TRUSTLET_INTEGRITY_FAIL is a secure-component integrity result. Enhanced Sign-in Security isolates biometric processing with VBS and protected components; Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance explicitly checks that biometric isolation trustlets such as bioiso.exe and ngciso.exe are running.
Treat this as a security boundary failure
- Preserve Biometrics Operational events and system security/VBS state before reinstalling components.
- Verify VBS and the secure biometric components rather than testing only whether the camera or fingerprint sensor captures data.
- Correlate the first failure with OS servicing, driver or firmware changes, and security-product events.
The HRESULT text describes compromise of the Windows Biometric Service secure component, so an application should not bypass the protected path or downgrade authentication silently. ESS uses VBS and TPM-backed channels specifically to protect biometric data and credential release. Follow platform remediation and trusted component recovery; repeated authentication attempts do not repair an integrity failure in the isolated processing environment.
