SPAPI_E_INVALID_PROPPAGE_PROVIDER

Device Manager property pages are supplied through a strict provider interface

SPAPI_E_INVALID_PROPPAGE_PROVIDER points to the registry and DLL contract used to extend device properties. A provider entry can name a missing module or export, use the wrong architecture, expose an invalid callback, or return property-sheet page data that SetupAPI cannot accept.

The problem is narrower than a generic device installation failure. The device can function while its custom property page fails to load. Modern driver packages should also consider whether a legacy external provider is appropriate, because class installers and co-installers can supply advanced pages through the corresponding DIF request.

Audit the provider registration and callback boundary

  • Resolve the registered DLL path in the process architecture that hosts the property sheet.
  • Verify the exported entry point and calling convention expected by SetupAPI.
  • Check every SP_PROPSHEETPAGE_REQUEST and page callback structure size.
  • Remove obsolete provider registrations rather than repeatedly reinstalling an unrelated device driver.
