WU_E_DM_UNAUTHORIZED means that the client reached the content path but was not authorized to download the payload. It is distinct from a generic network outage.
How to investigate
- Identify whether the denial came from WSUS, a proxy, a content distribution service, or another gateway.
- Check the system WinHTTP proxy configuration and the authentication rules applied to the Windows Update service context.
- Correlate the client event with the server or proxy access log at the same timestamp.
