FVE_E_BAD_INFORMATION

FVE_E_BAD_INFORMATION means that BitLocker detected invalid metadata on the encrypted drive. Metadata records describe the encrypted volume and its protectors; changing them manually can make recovery harder.

Safe response

  • Preserve the drive and avoid formatting, repartitioning, or removing protectors while recovery options are being assessed.
  • Identify and securely retain the recovery password, recovery key, or other approved recovery material before attempting repair work.
  • Use documented BitLocker recovery procedures and, when appropriate, the BitLocker Repair Tool to salvage data to a separate destination drive.
