FVE_E_CANNOT_ENCRYPT_NO_KEY

FVE_E_CANNOT_ENCRYPT_NO_KEY means BitLocker has no available key protector with which to protect the volume encryption key. A protector must be created before encryption can proceed.

What to check

  • List the current protectors and confirm their intended roles: TPM, startup PIN, recovery password, startup key, or another supported method.
  • Ensure the recovery method is created and stored according to policy before enabling protection.
  • Do not remove the last existing protector from a protected volume unless you understand the effect on protection.
