FVE_E_INVALID_PASSWORD_FORMAT

FVE_E_INVALID_PASSWORD_FORMAT means that the entered BitLocker recovery password has an invalid format. A BitLocker recovery password is a 48-digit value, not a normal account password or a recovery-key filename.

How to investigate

  • Check that all eight groups of digits were copied from the recovery record for the affected volume.
  • Use the recovery key ID displayed by BitLocker to select the correct recovery record when several are stored.
  • Do not disclose recovery passwords in tickets, chat transcripts, or unprotected logs.
