FVE_E_AUTH_INVALID_APPLICATION

FVE_E_AUTH_INVALID_APPLICATION means that a boot application protected by BitLocker integrity measurements changed after the protector was configured. BitLocker therefore requires recovery instead of automatically releasing the volume key.

How to investigate

  • Use the approved recovery method, then determine whether the change came from a legitimate OS, firmware, boot-manager, or security update.
  • Check change-management records before altering boot files or TPM protectors.
  • Preserve the recovery key ID and the device state for troubleshooting if the change was unexpected.
