STATUS_DOMAIN_CTRLR_CONFIG_ERROR
The controller is present but not correctly configured
This status is stronger than failure to locate a controller. The selected Windows Server is acting as a controller but its role, directory state, DNS registration, secure channels, or related service configuration does not satisfy the operation.
Collect controller-local evidence before changing clients. Domain-controller diagnostics, Netlogon logs, directory-service events, replication state, and DNS registrations identify whether the problem is isolated to one controller or shared across the domain.
What to inspect
- Repeat DC Locator while recording which controller is selected and whether alternatives succeed.
- Run supported domain-controller diagnostics and inspect replication and SYSVOL health.
- Verify Netlogon SRV registration and role ownership before attempting demotion or metadata cleanup.
