STATUS_REMOTE_STORAGE_MEDIA_ERROR
The offline tier used by Remote Storage reported a media failure
This status means the hierarchical storage service was active but encountered an error on the tape or other media containing migrated file data. The namespace placeholder alone does not contain the recalled content, so ordinary local-file repair cannot reconstruct it.
Preserve the media, catalog, and recall logs before attempting repair. Determine whether another copy or backup exists and whether the failure is limited to one cartridge, drive, or library path. Repeated recalls can worsen damaged removable media.
What to inspect
- Capture the affected file, storage-media identifier, drive, and recall job.
- Inspect library and removable-storage hardware logs.
- Recover from a redundant copy or backup before destructive media operations.
