STATUS_RESTART_BOOT_APPLICATION
The boot environment requested an application-level restart
Windows boot is performed by separate applications such as the firmware boot manager, Windows Boot Manager, Winload, and recovery tools. This status asks the current boot application to restart; it does not by itself identify a complete machine power cycle.
Repeated restarts indicate that state required by the application is not stabilizing. BCD changes, boot-file servicing, firmware variables, recovery transitions, or security-policy updates should be checked at the stage that emitted the status.
What to inspect
- Identify which boot application returned the status and its BCD identifier.
- Capture the preceding boot-status and servicing events.
- Verify BCD device and path elements for that application.
- Check whether pending firmware or Secure Boot changes require one clean reboot.
