The file-system operation could not complete because disk clusters associated with the range are unusable. A bad-cluster mark can reflect a confirmed media problem or a historical mark retained after a volume was copied to different storage.
Use a read-only assessment first when data recovery matters. The chkdsk /r path locates bad sectors and attempts to recover readable data, while /b clears and rescans the bad-cluster list on NTFS and is intended for cases such as imaging the volume to a new disk. Repeated new bad clusters are a storage-health problem, not merely metadata cleanup.

- Back up readable data before an intensive surface scan.
