STATUS_WOF_FILE_RESOURCE_TABLE_CORRUPT

The individual compressed file has invalid WOF resource metadata

Windows 10 can store compressed file content through the WOF file provider, including data in the WofCompressedData alternate stream while the main file appears as a normal sparse file. This status concerns resource metadata for an individual compressed file, rather than the global table of a WIM backing image.

Copying the sparse unnamed stream alone can omit the external backing information and alternate data needed to reconstruct the file. A damaged resource table can result from storage corruption, unsupported backup or restore behavior, or modification by software that does not preserve WOF metadata. Compare the file with a trusted component or application source.

What to inspect

  • Identify the WOF provider and query whether the file uses WIM backing or per-file compressed backing.
  • Inspect alternate streams, reparse or external-backing information, file size, sparse state, and storage errors.
  • Compare the affected file hash and version with the trusted package or component store.
  • Restore the complete file through supported servicing or installation so all metadata is recreated.
