MQ_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_FORMATNAME_OPERATION means that the requested operation is not supported for the supplied kind of format name. Microsoft gives deleting a queue through a direct format name as an example: a direct name can address a queue for some actions but is not a universal management identity.

- Identify the format-name kind in use, such as direct, private, public, journal, dead-letter, or connector.
- Check the API documentation for operations that the selected naming form supports.
