MQ_ERROR_SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR_TOO_SMALL

MQ_ERROR_SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR_TOO_SMALL means that the buffer passed to MQGetQueueSecurity is too small for the queue security descriptor. The caller must obtain sufficient storage before attempting to inspect or modify the queue ACL.

How to recover

  • Use the size returned by the security query to allocate a buffer large enough for the complete descriptor.
  • Retry the query with the larger buffer before parsing the descriptor or making ACL decisions.
  • Keep the descriptor buffer alive for as long as code is reading the contained ACL and SID structures.
