STATUS_GRAPHICS_PRESENT_DENIED

STATUS_GRAPHICS_PRESENT_DENIED means the display path could not present because desktop access was denied. This is an access and session-boundary condition, not a generic rendering failure. It can occur when a process is associated with a desktop that is not currently usable for the requested presentation operation.

Capture the process session, desktop context, token integrity context, and the state of the interactive session. A service, a process on a disconnected session, and an application running while the secure desktop is active do not have the same presentation rights.

What to distinguish

  • Failure to access the intended interactive desktop versus failure to locate a display output.
  • A deliberate session or security-desktop transition versus a persistent deployment design problem.
  • Desktop access denial versus an exclusive-source ownership conflict, which is reported by different graphics statuses.

Changing GPU settings or recreating rendering resources does not grant desktop access. The evidence to retain is the session/desktop transition and the caller identity at the time of the denied present.
