ERROR_MONITOR_WMI_DATABLOCK_REGISTRATION_FAILED

ERROR_MONITOR_WMI_DATABLOCK_REGISTRATION_FAILED is about exposing monitor information through WMI. It does not, by itself, say that the raw EDID is invalid. Windows groups several monitor data classes under the abstract MSMonitorClass, including identification, connection parameters, supported modes, and raw E-EDID blocks.

Targeted checks

  • Query the raw descriptor and a derived class independently. A raw block may be present while one derived representation is unavailable.
  • Use the same InstanceName when comparing WMI results so that a disconnected monitor or another display is not mistaken for the affected device.
  • Check the display miniport and monitor device state before changing WMI configuration. The error originates in the data-block registration path, not in a user WMI query syntax.
