ERROR_GRAPHICS_FREQUENCYRANGE_NOT_IN_SET
ERROR_GRAPHICS_FREQUENCYRANGE_NOT_IN_SET usually indicates an object-lifetime or ownership error. A frequency-range descriptor acquired while enumerating one monitor range set cannot be passed as though it were a member of another set, and it should not be retained after the owning monitor state changes.
Reacquire both the set and its descriptors in the same operation. This is especially important across hot-plug, EDID refresh, or topology reconstruction, when VidPN Manager can replace capability objects. Comparing only the numeric limits is insufficient: two descriptors may contain equal values but still be different set members with different identities.
Typical stale-reference sequence
- Enumerate a range from monitor A or from an earlier connection generation.
- Release or replace the owning range set.
- Pass the retained range pointer or identifier to an operation on a new set.
- Receive this status even though the printed limits appear identical.
