STATUS_PCP_INVALID_PARAMETER

Invalid Platform Crypto Provider parameter

STATUS_PCP_INVALID_PARAMETER means the CNG Platform Crypto Provider received an argument that does not fit the requested TPM-backed operation. The same algorithm or property may be valid for another provider but invalid for this TPM provider or device.

Useful diagnosis is parameter-specific: algorithm group, key length, padding mode, property buffer, parent key, usage flags, and whether a persisted TPM key or an ephemeral operation is being addressed.

Diagnostic focus

  • Log the NCrypt function name, provider name, property name, flags, buffer length, and algorithm identifier.
  • Compare the requested algorithm and key size with what the Platform Crypto Provider exposes on that Windows/TPM combination.
  • Do not assume software-KSP success proves the TPM provider should accept the same property set.
