STATUS_HV_PROPERTY_VALUE_OUT_OF_RANGE
The property exists, but its requested value violates its contract
STATUS_HV_PROPERTY_VALUE_OUT_OF_RANGE means the property identifier was recognized but the attempted value is invalid for that property. The value may exceed a documented limit, select an unavailable feature, or violate a relationship with another partition setting.
This differs from STATUS_HV_UNKNOWN_PROPERTY, where the selector is not recognized at all. Record both the property code and the complete before/after configuration. A single numeric value can be valid only in a particular lifecycle state, under a particular privilege mask, or after another property has been established.
What to validate
- The property identifier, serialized value, and width/sign used by the caller.
- Documented value ranges, reserved values and inter-property dependencies.
- Partition state and feature/privilege bits at the time of the update.
- The current configuration returned by the hypervisor before retrying a change.
