STATUS_VOLMGR_PLEX_INDEX_DUPLICATE

Two plex records claim one logical plex position

STATUS_VOLMGR_PLEX_INDEX_DUPLICATE is a malformed-layout error. The caller supplied more than one plex record with the same index, so the volume description cannot identify each complete-copy layout uniquely.

Plex indices are topology positions, not physical disk numbers. A mirrored volume may have several complete-copy plexes, and each plex can reference its own disk extents. Reusing an index makes later state and recovery operations ambiguous even if all referenced disks are different.

Compare the submitted layout with current enumeration and locate the duplicate records. If the structure was constructed by merging old and new topology snapshots, rebuild it from one consistent snapshot rather than renumbering entries after the fact.

What to inspect

  • Find every plex record using the rejected index and compare its type and extent list.
  • Validate index uniqueness after any filtering or merge operation that changes the plex array.
  • Keep the plex index separate from disk number, member index, and volume identifier in diagnostic logs.
