ERROR_VHD_SHARED
ERROR_VHD_SHARED means the operation cannot run because the virtual disk is currently used in shared mode. Shared virtual disks and VHD Sets are used by clustered guest workloads and have additional operation restrictions.
What to check
- Identify every VM and cluster role that currently uses the shared disk before planning maintenance.
- Schedule an approved cluster-aware maintenance window; do not detach, merge, or resize the disk while it is in active shared use.
- Use the management path supported by the guest-cluster and Hyper-V configuration rather than treating the file as an ordinary standalone VHDX.
Microsoft: Create Hyper-V VHD Set files
Microsoft: Manage virtual hard disks
