STATUS_CLIP_LICENSE_HARDWARE_ID_OUT_OF_TOLERANCE
The device changed beyond the license tolerance
A hardware-bound license can allow limited component changes while still recognizing the same device. This status means the accumulated difference exceeds that tolerance. It is stronger than a single device-ID mismatch because evaluation may compare a profile containing several hardware characteristics rather than one literal identifier.
Motherboard replacement, VM cloning, large virtual-hardware changes, firmware resets, or restoring an image to another computer can trigger reevaluation. The supported recovery is license reactivation or reassignment for the resulting device identity, subject to the product’s licensing terms.
What to inspect
- Document recent physical or virtual hardware changes and the date the license last worked.
- Confirm that a disk image or VM template was not cloned with device-bound licensing state.
- Sign in and request a fresh Store license for the current hardware identity.
- Use the organization’s reassignment or support process when hardware was legitimately replaced.
