What does Intel IPP status -124 (ippStsUnderRunErr) mean?

ippStsUnderRunErr

This is an input-consumption failure. The primitive expected more bytes, bits, samples, or table entries than the caller made available.

In decoders it often means a truncated packet or an incorrect length passed from the container layer. In streaming code it can also mean that the function was called before enough input was accumulated.

Diagnostic focus

  • Log the advertised input length and the number of bytes consumed before the status appeared.
  • Check packet reassembly and frame-boundary handling before blaming the codec payload.
  • For incremental decoders, distinguish a temporary under-run from a permanently damaged stream.
