ERROR_SXS_PROTECTION_CATALOG_NOT_VALID
ERROR_SXS_PROTECTION_CATALOG_NOT_VALID — An assembly catalog is invalid or does not match its manifest.
The catalog used to protect an assembly is missing required validity or does not correspond to the manifest and files being activated. This commonly indicates mismatched package contents or component-store corruption.
The catalog, manifest, and payload must be treated as one trusted unit. Replacing only one file does not restore that relationship.
What to check
- Determine whether the affected assembly is app-local or belongs to Windows.
- For app-local files, reinstall the complete application from an authentic package.
- For Windows files, repair the image and review the servicing logs for the first catalog-related failure.
