ERROR_INVALID_SPI_VALUE

The SPI parameter value is not valid for the selected action

SystemParametersInfo multiplexes many system-wide settings behind SPI_* action codes. The meaning and type of uiParam and pvParam depend entirely on the selected action.

Generic wrappers are therefore error-prone: the same call shape can require a Boolean, structure pointer, size, timeout, or other action-specific value. A value valid for one SPI_* action may be meaningless for another.

What to check

  • Log the symbolic SPI_* action and the concrete parameter type used by the caller.
  • Initialize any required structure size/version fields before the call.
  • Validate numeric bounds and enum values against the documentation for that one action.
  • Do not reuse a generic configuration serializer without action-specific conversion and range checking.

This is a parameter-contract failure for the chosen system setting, not a generic permission error while changing system policy.
