ERROR_INSTALL_SOURCE_ABSENT
ERROR_INSTALL_SOURCE_ABSENT means that Windows Installer needs a source for the product but cannot access it. This can happen during repair, feature installation, patching, or configuration even when the product is already installed.
Determine which registered source Windows Installer is requesting and whether the original package, network share, or cached source still exists. Restore or recache an approved source rather than copying arbitrary MSI media with a different identity.
What to check
- Verify the source path or deployment location is still available to the account running the installation.
- Use the original package and product version required by the installer rather than a similarly named download.
- Collect the installer log to see which product or feature requested source resolution.
