RSM cannot use this media as a drive cleaner
Cleaning cartridges have a distinct role and are normally associated with a reserved cleaner slot. Passing an ordinary data cartridge, a stale physical-media GUID or a cleaner not recognized in the target library causes validation to fail before cleaning starts. This differs from a spent cleaner, which is recognized correctly but has exhausted its permitted cleaning count.
Inventory the library and verify the media type and cleaner designation of the cartridge. If a new cleaner was inserted, use the cleaner-specific injection workflow and reserve a cleaner slot. Do not relabel data media in the RSM database merely to satisfy the request; the library and drive must also support the physical cleaner type.
What to inspect
- Resolve the GUID as physical media and inspect its media type.
- Confirm the cartridge occupies the reserved cleaner slot.
- Verify compatibility with the drive type requiring cleaning.
