ERROR_CAPAUTHZ_DB_CORRUPTED

The local capability authorization store is corrupted

ERROR_CAPAUTHZ_DB_CORRUPTED identifies damage in the system database that records capability authorization state. It is broader than a malformed SCCD belonging to one package: requests for otherwise valid applications can fail because Windows cannot reliably read or validate the shared authorization data.

Preserve AppModel and deployment event logs, identify whether multiple packages fail, and check recent servicing or abrupt-storage events. Removing and reinstalling a single application may recreate its registration but does not necessarily repair a shared database. Use supported Windows repair or servicing procedures; avoid deleting undocumented AppModel database files, which can orphan package and authorization records.

What to inspect

  • Test more than one capability-using package to determine scope.
  • Check disk, servicing, and unexpected-shutdown history.
  • Use supported system remediation instead of manual database deletion.
