ERROR_CLUSCFG_SYSTEM_DISK_DRIVE_LETTER_CONFLICT

A shared drive letter must not identify different system volumes on different nodes

ERROR_CLUSCFG_SYSTEM_DISK_DRIVE_LETTER_CONFLICT is raised when cluster configuration detects that a drive letter used for a system disk on one node refers to a different disk role on another node. Clustered applications and setup code may store paths that are expected to have consistent meaning after failover, so conflicting system-volume assignments make those paths unsafe.

Inventory drive letters, volume GUID paths, boot/system flags, and application installation paths on every candidate node. Do not change the active Windows system or boot volume letter casually; instead correct non-system volume mappings or installation layout before clustering. Re-run validation after the mapping is consistent. A shared storage LUN should also have a deliberate cluster-managed mount strategy rather than node-specific letters.

Cross-node volume data to compare

  • Drive letter to volume GUID mapping on each node.
  • Boot, system, page-file, and application-installation volume roles.
  • Shared disks that are visible before the cluster owns them.
  • Hard-coded application paths that must remain valid after failover.
