ERROR_LOG_BLOCK_INCOMPLETE

The marshalling area cannot hold a complete log block

CLFS records pass through a marshalling area because records are stored in log blocks. Microsoft explicitly documents this error for restart-record reading when the block size supplied to CreateLogMarshallingArea is not large enough to hold a complete log block. This is therefore not equivalent to a truncated application payload: the read path lacks sufficient block-buffer capacity to materialize the CLFS block containing the requested record.

Inspect the marshalling-area parameters used by the failing client, especially the marshalling buffer size and read-buffer count. A caller should create the context with dimensions appropriate for the physical log and then reuse that context for read, append, write, and flush operations. Retrying the same read with the same undersized marshalling context will not repair the condition. Also confirm that the error is not being translated from a different service layer before changing application record sizes.

What to inspect

  • Trace the CreateLogMarshallingArea parameters used to create the failing marshalling context.
  • Compare the configured block buffer with the log block requirements seen by the same CLFS stream.
  • Recreate the marshalling area with valid sizing before retrying restart or record reads.
