ERROR_RDP_PROTOCOL_ERROR
ERROR_RDP_PROTOCOL_ERROR means an RDP protocol component detected malformed, unsupported, or otherwise invalid data in the connection stream and disconnected the client. The code identifies the protocol stage, not necessarily the machine at fault.
What to check
- Check whether the failure occurs only with one client version, gateway, VPN, or network path.
- Update the RDP client and compare its connection settings with a known-good client.
- Review RemoteConnectionManager and LocalSessionManager events on the host for the component identified near the disconnect.
Test-NetConnection -ComputerName rd-session-host -Port 3389
