ERROR_DS_DRA_SHUTDOWN
ERROR_DS_DRA_SHUTDOWN (8463) is an Active Directory replication error. The replication call was interrupted by shutdown or service termination. The useful question is whether the shutdown was planned, recurrent, or accompanied by an unexpected system or directory-service event.
Confirm whether NTDS or the operating system was intentionally stopping when replication was interrupted. Unexpected recurring shutdowns require service and system-event analysis; a planned stop generally needs only a later replication-health check.
What to check
- Correlate the replication timestamp with System and Directory Service shutdown, restart, or crash events.
- After the domain controller is stable, verify replication health again rather than assuming the interrupted operation completed.
- Investigate repeated shutdowns as an availability issue before tuning replication schedules.
Useful command
repadmin /showrepl <DestinationDC> /all
Microsoft: Diagnose AD replication failures · Microsoft: Repadmin /showrepl
