ERROR_DS_DST_NC_MISMATCH
Cross-domain move participants disagree about forest partition metadata
Cross-domain moves depend on both sides understanding the same forest partition layout. The Partitions container in the configuration NC describes naming contexts through crossRef objects. If source and destination servers have not converged on that metadata, they can disagree about which NC is the destination of the move.
This is a stronger signal than a typo in the destination DN. The move can be formed correctly from the client’s perspective while one participating DC still has stale configuration-NC data. Retrying against the same divergent partners will usually reproduce the mismatch.
What to inspect
- Record both participating DCs and the destination NC DN selected by the move.
- Compare the relevant crossRef and Partitions-container replication metadata on the two DCs.
- Repair configuration-NC replication and confirm convergence before repeating the cross-domain move; changing the object DN does not synchronize forest metadata.
