STG_S_MONITORING
Notification without flow control
STG_S_MONITORING indicates that the notified event sink will not influence the storage operation. In the IProgressNotify contract, it lets asynchronous storage continue in nonblocking mode while the sink observes progress.
This is useful for user-interface updates and telemetry, but it means the sink cannot assume the requested data is already available. The storage call can still report pending or request another notification later.
What to verify
- Keep progress reporting side-effect free with respect to the storage state.
- Do not convert a monitoring callback into a synchronous wait on the same producer thread.
- Record completed and total byte counts supplied to the callback.
- Handle cancellation through the documented callback or binding mechanism rather than changing this status.
