IDS_MON_INVALIDSELECT_COALESCE is a result-shape validation failure in the legacy search query dialect. The coalesce operation expects compatible component projections; the error is about the selected columns, not whether the underlying documents match.

Compare every component projection position by position

Log each component query before coalescing rather than only the final combined text.
Check column count, ordering, aliases, and data types across all component select lists.
If the application has moved to modern Windows Search, replace legacy coalesce templates with supported SELECT or GROUP ON ... OVER forms.

Current Windows Search documents an explicit SELECT column list and a separate hierarchical grouping syntax. It also publishes property-to-OLE DB type mappings. Those contracts are useful when replacing or diagnosing legacy combined queries: two columns with similar display values can still have incompatible underlying types or positions. Reindexing cannot repair a malformed projection.
