STATUS_SERVICE_NOTIFICATION
This is a notification status, not a conventional failure
STATUS_SERVICE_NOTIFICATION is used to signal a service-related event through an NTSTATUS path. The associated operation may require the caller to inspect accompanying data or continue through a notification-specific code path.
Caller guidance
- Do not convert the status to a generic Win32 error before checking the API contract.
- Inspect any returned notification structure, event identifier, or service state.
- Keep callback and subscription objects valid until the notification is acknowledged.
- Separate expected notifications from transport or service-control failures in logs.
Debugging
If the status appears unexpectedly, trace which service registration or wait operation produced it. A stale subscription, reused event object, or mismatched notification buffer can make a valid notification look like an unrelated failure.
