STATUS_NDIS_INDICATION_REQUIRED
This OID has an indication-based completion contract
STATUS_NDIS_INDICATION_REQUIRED is not a generic delayed completion. It is returned only when the definition of a particular OID allows the miniport to provide the final result through a subsequent NDIS status indication. The original request and the later indication must still be correlated by the driver stack.
Do not substitute this status for ordinary asynchronous work. A regular asynchronous OID request uses NDIS_STATUS_PENDING and is completed through the OID completion path. The first question is therefore whether the requested OID explicitly permits indication-based completion.
Evidence that narrows it
- Capture the OID, request type,
RequestId, and the status indication that is expected to complete it. - Verify the OID reference permits
NDIS_STATUS_INDICATION_REQUIRED; a miniport cannot use it for an arbitrary OID. - Distinguish a missing expected indication from a request that is pending, canceled, reset, or rejected before it reaches the miniport.
