CO_E_CLSREG_INCONSISTENT
CO_E_CLSREG_INCONSISTENT identifies inconsistent or incomplete registration for the class server itself. The CLSID may exist, but COM cannot derive one coherent activation recipe from the class and application registration that accompanies it.
Registration is an activation graph
COM resolves a CLSID through registry information that identifies the server location and, for distributed configuration, an AppID. Depending on the server model, the relevant values can include InprocServer32, LocalServer32, LocalService, the CLSID’s AppID value, and the corresponding AppID key. A partial installer or an incorrect uninstaller can leave these relationships inconsistent.
Targeted checks
- Export the CLSID and its AppID key before editing, then compare the values with the component’s intended server model.
- Check that referenced module paths, service names, and AppID GUIDs belong to the same installed component version.
- Repair registration with the component’s documented installer or registration procedure; avoid deleting broad registry branches that may contain configuration for other classes.
