E_ADS_COLUMN_NOT_SET
E_ADS_COLUMN_NOT_SET belongs to IDirectorySearch result processing. Directory rows need not expose a value for every possible attribute, even when the application requests a common set of columns for heterogeneous object classes.
Validate the current row and requested LDAP attribute name
- Log the object identity for the current row before calling
GetColumn. - Use LDAP display names for requested attributes and compare them with the list passed to
ExecuteSearch. - Handle an unset column separately from
S_ADS_NOMORE_COLUMNS, which only means column enumeration for the row is finished.
Microsoft describes GetColumn as returning an ADS_SEARCH_COLUMN for a named attribute and requires the caller to release its allocated data with FreeColumn. If one object lacks the attribute, that should not corrupt the row/column iterator or terminate the entire result set. In mixed-class searches, consider narrowing the filter by objectCategory/objectClass when the application truly requires a property on every row.
