RPC_E_CALL_CANCELED
RPC_E_CALL_CANCELED means that COM call filtering cancelled a pending call. The error usually reflects a client-side decision made while COM was waiting, rather than proof that the target application crashed.
What to inspect
- Inspect the client implementation of
IMessageFilter, especially its cancellation and retry decisions. - Check whether the caller entered a modal state, was asked to cancel, or stopped waiting for the target application.
- Treat the result as indeterminate unless the server contract makes it clear whether the method was started.
Do not infer that a cancelled call had no side effects without checking the target object or the transaction state.
