RPC_E_SERVERFAULT
RPC_E_SERVERFAULT means that the COM server threw an exception while processing the call. Unlike a transport-only failure, this result points directly to server-side execution and should be investigated with the server stack, logs, and exception data.
Server-side diagnosis
- Capture the original exception before COM converts it to an HRESULT.
- Validate arguments and object state at the method boundary.
- Determine whether the method made partial changes before the exception and make recovery explicit.
Retrying without fixing the server defect can repeat the same exception or duplicate partial work.
