RPC_E_RETRY
RPC_E_RETRY means that the target COM object chose not to process the call at that moment and asked the client to retry later. It is a transient result, not confirmation that the requested operation failed permanently.
How to retry responsibly
- Retry only methods whose semantics are safe to repeat.
- Use a bounded delay and a retry limit instead of a tight loop.
- Expose a timeout or cancellation path when the object remains unavailable.
When a message filter is involved, keep its retry policy separate from application-level business retries.
