VFW_E_CHANGING_FORMAT

VFW_E_CHANGING_FORMAT is a DirectShow HRESULT. A filter attempted to alter the media type after streaming had begun, but the connected filters or current graph state do not permit that change. Some filters support in-stream format changes; others require a stopped and reconnected graph.

How to handle it

Use QueryAccept to determine whether the downstream pin accepts the proposed type.
When a format change is not supported in-stream, stop the affected graph branch, disconnect it and renegotiate the connection.
If a new type is attached to a sample, ensure the downstream filter follows the expected dynamic media-type handling path.

Treat format changes as a graph-protocol event. Updating only the source filter's local media type is not enough.
