VFW_E_NOT_PAUSED

VFW_E_NOT_PAUSED is a DirectShow HRESULT. The paused state is used by DirectShow to cue media so playback can begin promptly. Some operations expect the graph to be paused because that state preserves an established connection while stopping normal streaming.

What to check

Call IMediaControl::Pause and wait for the state transition before issuing the operation again.
Do not assume that a call to Pause completed synchronously; query the actual filter state when timing matters.
For live sources, account for the fact that a filter may not deliver samples while paused.

Use the paused state intentionally for cueing or a paused-only API; it is not a substitute for a stopped graph when changing topology.
