VFW_E_WRONG_STATE
VFW_E_WRONG_STATE is a DirectShow HRESULT. This is a generic state-machine error. Unlike the more specific stopped, paused or running codes, it indicates that the operation's preconditions do not match the filter's current lifecycle state.
How to diagnose it
- Query the filter or graph state immediately before the failing call and log the requested operation.
- Wait for asynchronous transitions instead of issuing several state-sensitive calls back to back.
- Check whether a prior failure, flush, end-of-stream or reconnect left the filter in an intermediate state.
Retry only after moving the graph to the documented required state. Repeating the same call without a transition will not repair the mismatch.
