SCHED_E_START_ON_DEMAND
SCHED_E_START_ON_DEMAND means the task settings do not allow a manual or programmatic demand start. It is a policy result, not evidence that the scheduled trigger is broken: the task can still run when a permitted trigger fires.
Where the setting comes from
The AllowDemandStart property maps to the AllowStartOnDemand task XML element. When it is false, Task Scheduler refuses a Run request independent of the normal trigger schedule. Microsoft also notes that RegisteredTask.Run can return without an error while the task does not start under this setting.
What to do
- Confirm whether operators are supposed to be able to launch the task manually or whether it must remain trigger-only.
- When manual execution is intended, change the explicit task setting and test the same principal and conditions that apply to scheduled execution.
- When trigger-only behavior is intentional, report the policy clearly instead of retrying Run in a loop.
