VSS_E_WRITERERROR_RECOVERY_FAILED The writer could not recover the shadow-copy volume after a VSS operation. The snapshot may have been created, but the application could not complete its expected recovery transition.
What to check
- Identify the writer and inspect application recovery logs as well as VSS events.
- Do not assume that a created snapshot is safe for restore when the writer reports recovery failure.
- Verify required volumes, application services, and post-snapshot operations before retrying the backup.
